Mint Madness

I love mint! My favorite is peppermint. I also really like the look of pineapple mint, with it's lovely variegated leaves. And then there is chocolate mint. Yum! The smell is fabulous! Okay, I just like mint, all kinds of mint.

Mint is an easy plant to grow. Give it soil and water, and it will grow wherever it is planted. I have grown mint in full sun, full shade, and everything in between.

One of the challenges with mint is keeping it contained. Mint can be an agressive plant, and will often take over and crowd out other plants. That's not a problem if you like mint, but if you want other things to grow near your mint, there are ways to contain it. One of the easiest is to plant the mint in a pot, then sink the pot into the ground. That helps to keep it from spreading.

Sometimes letting mint spread is not a bad thing. When the mint in my flower beds started popping up in the lawn, I decided to leave it. I could mow it with the lawn, so it was never taller than the grass, and the fresh mint fragrance every time I mowed the lawn was a real delight!

If you haven't tried growing mint yet, I highly recommend it. You will never be without it again!
